Welcome
For over 15 years our organization, the South African Education and Environment Project (USA), has raised funds to support the South African Education and Environment Project (SA) in South Africa. SAEP(USA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
SAEP(SA) works with children and young adults in the black townships of South Africa, particularly around Cape Town. Their successful 15-year program has helped many of these children get a good start educationally and then hone their skills so that they can gain entrance to advanced educational programs after high school, including the University of Cape Town. For details about their program, please visit their website at www. SAEP.org.
Even though it has been two decades since the end of Apartheid, black children with whom SAEP-SA works still face serious educational disadvantages. In May of 2011 National Public Radio (NPR) here in the US did a story about the struggle that black students have to succeed at the University of Cape Town. SAEP-SA works with students just like these to help them prepare for the University and then helps them succeed once they are there. You can listen to the NPR story by clicking here.
Currently, SAEP(USA) uses the donations it receives to provide grants to the SAEP(SA).
SAEP(USA) is not involved in the management of SAEP(SA) but maintains a continuing flow of information between the two organizations so that the South African organization’s needs are known to us and donations can be channeled appropriately. SAEP(SA) also provides reports to us on their programs and how the funds raised by SAEP(USA) are used.
Here on this website you will find information about our Board of Directors, and our latest tax returns to the Internal Revenue Service (Form 990). Of course, you will also find out how to donate to SAEP(USA) through the internet and by check or other means.
